My VERY First Time

So today I am starting out on an adventure. That's what I say when I take a wrong turn, try something new or just find myself in a new situation. I am entering the world of blogging. My neice does it and I love reading her posts. I am an avid fan of facebook and have been encouraged to try my hand at writing. Not sure what I have to offer but will see what happens. So here another "adventure" begins.

  1. Welcome! Come right on in -- the water is not too chilly, and only as deep as you want it to be. You can share a lot, or share a little. You can write every day, or only when you feel like it. And some days, you can post "I don't feel like writing today," or even "Damn it! This hurts!" ... and that will be okay too.

Writing as ministry, writing as journaling, writing as therapy -- they're all in here, in your posts over time ... and sometimes all in the same post. The only advice I can truly give is just -- do it. Writing is NOT like riding a bike, that you can put down and pick back up whenever you want. Writing is like a stream trying to make its way down through a forest; if you leave it for a time, the leaves and twigs and rocks of every day life clog the channel, and when you come back it is much harder. But write regularly, even daily, and soon the stream turns into a strong current of ideas and words.

One more thing -- don't get discouraged if you don't see readers, or don't get comments. Many, many more people lurk and read than comment. Ultimately, you will never really know who or how many. All you can do is trust the medium, the words, and your heart.

I'll be pulling for you on your new adventure. And again, welcome.

    Bruce
